Heat Effects
The body reacts to an unfavorable hot environment by an increase in the blood supply to the skin allowing increase in heat loss from the body surface and by increase in the amount of sweating.
Prevention of Heat Effects
- Fluid Intake
Ample intake of purified cool water. A man may need 9 liters or more of water during very hot weather.
- Salt Intake.
Extra allowance of salt is needed during very hot weather and at the time of extra physical exertion and this should be consumed by being put into drinking water.
- Ventilation.
Movement of air helps to lower body temperature.
- Rest and Sleeg.
7-8 hours sleep is of paramount importance.
- Bathing.
A clean and healthy skin is an important agent in warding off heat stroke and heat exhaustion.
- Meals.
A good breakfast , a light lunch, tea and a substantial dinner in the evening.
- Constipation.
Bowels should be kept open by intake of fibres – vegetable and fruits.
